Names and Naming Conventions
Cooper has official names for each of its health system entities, as well as guidelines for their correct usage. We also have naming conventions for our campuses, buildings, and ambulatory offices. Before creating names for locations in IT systems or adding location names to printed material, please consult with the Communications and Marketing Department to ensure that the name you are using is consistent with Cooper’s standards.
Learn more about our official entity names and how to use them by expanding the accordions below.
Cooper University Health Care is the correct way to refer to the entire health system. It is the umbrella term that encompasses the entirety of our hospitals, ambulatory locations, and business entities. In written and spoken communications, on first reference use Cooper University Health Care (four words with the first letter of each word capitalized). On second or subsequent references, use Cooper, but never Cooper University.
Do not use The Cooper Health System to refer to Cooper. That legal entity name is used in contracting and other legal documents only. If you see any patient-facing or public-facing materials carrying this name, please email BrandCentral@cooperhealth.edu so that material can be updated with the correct name.
The name MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper may only be used in reference to cancer services at locations accredited by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. It may not be used to represent any non-cancer service.
On first reference in written and spoken communications, use MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. On second/subsequent reference you may use the shorter MD Anderson at Cooper.
Do not use “MD Anderson” or “MD Anderson Cancer Center” alone when referencing our cancer program – you must include “at Cooper” in the full name or the shortened name. MD Anderson and MD Anderson Cancer Center (without the Cooper) refer only to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Never use MD Anderson Cooper Cancer Center.
Do not abbreviate MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper as MDACCC, MDAC, MDA, or any other acronym or abbreviation, per MD Anderson’s branding rules. Do not break “MD” and “Anderson” onto separate lines when writing the institution or program name.
Cooper has three hospitals:
Cooper University Hospital
